Rezension-Firespell, Chloe Neill

NOVEL OF THE DARK ELITE #1 - Firespell
by Chloe Neill

246 pages

ACTION
Lily's parents have sent her to a fancy boarding school in Chicago filled with the ultra-rich. If that wasn't bad enough, she's hearing and seeing bizarre things on St. Sophie's creepy campus. Her roommate, Scout, keeps her sane, but keeps disappearing at night. When one day Lily finds Scout running from real-life monsters, she learns the hard way that Scout is involved in a splinter group of rebel teens.

They protect Chicago from demons, vamps, and dark magic users. It's too bad Lily doesn't have powers of her own to help. At least, none that she's discovered yet...

MY OPINION
Because I love Neill's book series "Chicagoland Vampires" I knew this novel would be just as exciting as "CV". And I was right.

Lily, the Protagonist of the Story, is very likeable to me. She has always been the normal girl until she gets to Chicago and St. Sophie and explores secrets which get her off course.
Her roommate Scout, the brat pack (schoolmates) and mostly every other character fits to the story and is described perfectly. But of course there are some characters which are not as clear, which - I suppose- will be important for the next novel of the series (Hexbound).

In addition the plot line is comprehensible and Neill found the Balance between too detailed and too briefly, which makes the novel easier to read. Another reason is Neill's exciting writing stile and plot.

CONCLUSION:
All in all I would first of all recommand the novel to readers who like fantasy, but not in a complex way such as in Harry Potter. "Firespell" contains just 246 pages, which means it's not possible to be too complex. But in my opinion it is just right. Chloe Neill found the perfect Balance, as I mentioned. But "Firespell" also offers teenage-problems such as boys, "conflicts" with classmates, parents, lies, friendship...

5/5
